Under 15's Match Reports:

Sunday 27th April 2008. Napton 0-2 St. Peters Celtic
With most players playing for the under 16's team as well, it meant a very tired Napton side lined up against St. Peters Celtic. They started brightly though, and efforts from Josh Palmer and Sam Churchill went close. George Dewey's corner almost found a Napton head, and the away side struggled to get into the game. Good work down the left involving Blake Smith and George Coo saw a cross hacked away, before Tom Isom got back to break down a counter attack. The host's wasted another chance when Joel Bliss fired into Stockton after a good ball from Rhys Vilgeon. The away side came with a rather 'physical' approach to the game, where they seemed to go in to stop the player rather than the ball on several occasions, one leaving Joel Bliss with stud marks on his legs. They did however record their first shot of the game when a header from a corner was cleared. At the other end, Rob Burgess had a shot saved low down, before Tom Isom fired from long range, but his effort was also saved. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead after 30 minutes, a free header from a corner, which was eventually scrambled home. This seemed to shock the home side, as the visitors then had a one-on-one saved well by Jacob Coker. Blake Smith's ball forward then bounced right in front of the 'keeper, who had to tip it over the bar. From the resulting corner, Napton equalised, or thought they did. George Dewey's excellent corner was headed back across goal by Josh Palmer, and Sam Churchill fired home after his initial shot hit the crossbar. Though to the amazement of everybody, the linesman, who happened to be texting throughout the game, raised his flag signalling that the ball went out of play when Josh Palmer headed it back into the 6 yard box. The half time whistle blew, leaving Napton shocked. The home side started the second half brighter, but failed to test their 'keeper until George Dewey's shot was tipped around the post. Tom Isom then had a long-range effort go just over. At the other end, Jake Hooker made a great save, tipping the ball over the cross bar. Napton continued to push forwards, but Joel Bliss, this timed fired into Prios Marston. St. Peters Celtic continued their physical approach, and a crunching tackle on George Dewey after the ball was played went unpunished. The away side were then awarded a penalty after what appeared to be a fair shoulder barge by George Dewey was penalised; some of the away players walked away thinking it was a free kick to Napton. The spot kick was converted well. Seconds after the decision, Josh Palmer was sandwiched to the floor by three away players, without touching the ball, but this time, no penalty. The home side kept going, but St. Peter's goalkeeper pulled of two great saves to deny Sam Churchill and Rhys Vilgeon. The seconds then ran out, as the full time whistle blew. Despite having by far the better of the play and chances, a luckless Napton ended up losers.

Sunday 13th April 2008. Napton 3-10 Wulfstan Dynamoes
Napton 'welcomed' Wulfstan Dynamoes for a local derby. A heavy storm in the hour before the game had left the pitch wet and boggy, but the skies had cleared for the kick off. The visitors had the first chance of the game with a long-range strike, but it flew wide. Napton started to get into the game, and after good football down the right wing by Jake Hooker saw the ball fall to Matt Austin, and his dangerous cross went straight across goal. Wulfstan took the lead after 10 minutes. A cross in from the right was met by a diving header that 'keeper Jacob Coker could do nothing with. The home side looked to respond, and George Dewey's long ball picked out Paul Wallace, and he set up George Coo, but his strike went wide. Harvey Jones made a good tackle to deny any counter attacks, but the away team doubled their lead against the run of play. A corner was met by a free header from 12 yards out, after the runner had lost his marker. Napton looked to respond, and Rob Burgess fired a cross to the far post that George Dewey sent goal wards, but the 'keeper claimed. Matt Austin was then denied by a last ditch tackle, before Joel Bliss blasted into the tennis courts. Again, however, Napton conceded as the away team counter attacked. Several Napton defenders thought other players were going to make a tackle, but with none of them committing themselves, the striker stepped round and side footed home. Before the home players could say 'CCFC in League 1', the score became 4-0. Another cross from the right was met by a Wulfstan player who finished well. The host's continued to battle, and Rob Burgess had an effort rise just over the bar, before Paul Wallace came close after latching onto a good ball by Tom Isom. The score was 4-0 at half time, and Andy was not happy. After a good shouting at, Napton came out, and almost pulled one back immediately. Nick Elkins set George Dewey up, but his shot lacked accuracy. George Coo then had an effort saved. Napton's defence were struggling to cope with the away teams pace up front, and this was proved as they scored a fifth, after cutting in from the left and firing into the far corner. Jacob Coker then made a good save diving down to his right. It became 6-0 just after, a terrific strike from 25 yards. George Dewey then sent the ball into orbit with a right-footed effort. Napton were having as many opportunities as the visitors, but they weren't taking them. The away side made it 7-0, after a player cut in from the right and slotted home at the near post. Lets not talk about the defending on this goal. Napton finally scored moments after Wulfstans seventh, after being awarded a free kick just outside the box. Tom Isom stepped up, and as coolly as you like, blasted the ball into the net of the far post. This seemed to encourage Napton and Matt Austin forced a good save, before George Dewey, who was having bad luck with shooting, sliced wide from 2 yards out. Jake Hooker moved to centre back, and when Napton marked Wulfstan tightly, they didn't threaten at all, ...ish. The score became 7-2 with 15 minutes to play. A cross by Nick Elkins was only half cleared to Paul Wallaceon the edge of the box, and he fired in at the near post. The turn around continued, as Napton scored again. More good work on the wings saw Harvey Jones cross fall to Paul Wallace, who chested and then fired the ball into the back of the net. As the small chances of a comeback came to the mind, Napton pushed more men forward, though this left space at the back. The game was made sure of by the visitors when a long ball was headed in, to make it 8-3. Rob Burgess almost caught the dodgy replacement 'keeper out of his goal with a long-range strike, before Wulfstan made it 9-3. Their 'keeper who came out to play midfield happened to score this, cutting inside and miskicking the ball into the net, in my opinion. As tiredness of a 4th game in 8 games really started to show, the game was sealed when Wulfstan made it 10-3. I can't remember what happened with this goal, so lets keep quiet and pretend it never happened. Despite playing some encouraging football in the first half, poor defending from all positions meant Napton's unbeaten home run in the league that stretched back to September was ended.
